Event Details
Held at QUT (Queensland University of Technology), teams from all over Australia came together to provide innovative solutions focusing on real-world challenges. This year, it was all about biosecurity, with the generous support of Plant Biosecurity Research Initiative partners.
The sponsors contribution to the future generation of industry and research was in enabling them to have real-world experience in applying their skills, knowledge and expertise to a wicked social problem facing Australia. This year’s sponsors 🌱 Hort Innovation, Australian Government Department of Agriculture and Water Resources, AgriFutures Australia, Cotton Research and Development Corporation, Forest & Wood Products Australia, Grains Research and Development Corporation, Sugar Research Australia and Wine Australia.
There were so many solutions to the behavioural change competition with the potential for real-world impact. This year’s biosecurity theme had two core challenges.
In challenge one, teams explored the importance of preparedness for biosecurity emergencies. Behavioural interventions for farmers, growers, and businesses tasked to recognise and respond to any biosecurity emergencies.
Challenge two had teams focus on increasing citizen science for Australian biosecurity. The challenge focused on how to engage the public in identifying and reporting biosecurity risks for better management of invasive species.
