General Information

Nudgeathon is a behavioural change competition, in which teams develop solutions to real-life social issues.

Each year, we invite teams of undergraduate and postgraduate students, government gurus, and private sector pros from across Australia and New Zealand, and the world to join us for an electrifying two-and-a-half-day Nudgeathon!

Teams of 4 will dive into a problem brief and use behavioural science principles and present their brilliant solutions to a panel of expert judges from academia, government, and industry.  On the third day, we’ll announce the winners of the competition and this proposal will be presented to government with the aim of making it a policy reality either at the Commonwealth or State level.

Nudgeathon over the years

2025 NUDGEATHON

This year’s Nudgeathon Conference was proudly sponsored by the Queensland Department of Transport and Main Roads and the Motor Accident Insurance Commission (MAIC). This year we brought together students, researchers, and policymakers to focus on critical challenges in road safety and transport policy.

Over three days, participants engaged with expert speakers from QUT, the Department of Transport and Main Roads, MAIC, RACQ, PCYC, and BETA, alongside interactive panels, team sessions, and presentations.

2024 NUDGEATHON

Last year’s Nudgeathon (2024) challenged participants to tackle two biosecurity. Teams worked on Challenge One: “The Value of Preparedness”, developing behavioural interventions to encourage farmers, growers, and agribusinesses to adopt stronger biosecurity emergency planning practices. Challenge Two: “The Citizen Science of Biosecurity” asked participants to design innovative ways to engage everyday Australians in identifying and reporting pest and disease risks, thereby improving early detection and mapping.
